Mr. Clown & Vokamis...
I hope you are enjoying your visit to VOKAMIS WebDesign & Music, and that you may find our offers appealing. My name is Alex. I am the founder and head of staff of VOKAMIS WebDesign & Music. I have been working with computer programing and graphics for over 12 years. Although I have abandoned my professional computer career I am still highly affiliated with computer use. I am currently a student at JMU.
Web Design
My graphics designing experience started a very long time ago in my early years of programming on a ZX Spectrum 8-bit computer. You're right, the internet didn't really exist then, HTML was unheard of, and even if it was, a ZX Spectrum would never be able to handle it. However, when writing many programs for the ZX I focused on the design and layout of my programs (which is the main reason why many were never finished) rather than their functionality, which I left for other people or used pre-existing code. With the availability of first the AMIGA and much later a 80386 PC processor I became very interested in computer graphics and MOD music (please see the Music section). My practices included simple 3D graphics and designs to the more sophisticated ray-tracing and animations. Now, due to the limited time that I have available due to my university studies, I focus mostly on the more simple and less time consuming web design. For this I use a lot of Adobe Photoshop? and Macromedia Flash?. Also, with the development of Sun Microsystems' JAVA? programing language I have been "blessing" my web pages with its interactivity.
I have been working with HTML for the last 5 years. My first web page was a personal site on which I distributed MOD music and acessories. Some of that still remains on the Music page. Recently I decided to start VOKAMIS WebDesign & Music. This small company gives people and their companies a great opportunity to acquire professional web sites designed by someone who really does enjoys making them. Since VOKAMIS is not very large, we can afford to give companies the special individualized care that they need in order to offer them the best web site. Music
I have been writing electronic music and playing with synthesizers since I was about 14 years old. Ever since my parents bought me my first keyboard, which was a Yamaha PSS-"something", a tiny little portable keyboard with 10 sounds and 10 beats, I became fascinated with electronic sounds. Later I discovered the electronic music geniouses like Jean Michel Jarre, Ed van Fleet, Tangerine Dream, and Klause Schultz. In 1994, following some major changes in my life, my parents once again purchased me a keyboard (this time after I had been nagging them about it for several months). It was a nice sturdy Yamaha PSR-410. Although the sound was nothing special it proved to be a worthy piece of equipment. Most of my actual music was written using it (and still is).
Throughout all of this I had been playing around with 4-channel MODs. Because my parents were never exactly the richest people in the world, we could not afford a modem, therefore I did not obtain my first tracker until the early 90s, I had been collecting MODs and playing them back on some very old-skool players, however. Some of my '95-collection songs actually featured samples that were simply being played by a player though PC speakers and recorded on top of what had been played with my keyboards.
I started using trackers just lately in '97. At first it seemed like it would be fun to try a new medium for writing my music, or converting my existing songs into digital format. However, after some time I realized that it is not quite my thing. See, most of my music features a lot of improvisation which is very hard to use in a tracker. Although I still use trackers for more techno-ish stuff (which is still not posted), it doesn't quite work with classic EM and jazzy songs.
Also, in '97 I purchased a new addition for my music - a Roland JP-8000 synthesizer! Those of you who have seen this beauty must know that I was very excited to be an owner. Once again my music changed a bit, leaning even more towards the jazzy side, and lately even some Reggae-style stuff.
This is, in a nutshell, the story of my solo musical career. Although the list of equipment used throughout the year is by-far not complete, the ones that meant the most for me were mentioned. Also, I never mentioned that I have played with other Synth artists here and there. Summer of 1996 I played with my best friend Michael (aka Mr. Clown) and another friend of our's Stephan. We formed a little Live techno group called The Lanex Team. We recorded some pretty good stuff which even included some vocals (such as the song "Amphetamine"). But The Lanex Team was more of a fun thing to do for a week or so in the summer. However, in the summer of 1997, myself, Mr. Clown, and our friend Alex Silich formed an abstract EM group. This time we had a lot more equipment and our minds were set on some ambient and chill-out music. It was achieved! During our 1-week session we managed to record as many as 6 different tapes (Sessions 1-6). Some of this stuff was absolutely mind blowing and extremely chilled. After our first session we brought in a sofa and sat there listenning to what had been recorded...I think we all went in a trance of some sort, because when the tape finished there were quite a lot of people in our studio listening to the music with us. 2 synths, 2 keyboard, 1 drum machine, and a set of live drums - WOW! Most of the music sounded a lot like Tangerine Dream except that we incorporated some live drums and even an accoustic guitar into our electronic madness.
Unfortunately, life has torn us apart and we all went our own ways. I know for a fact that Mr. Clown has not been very musical lately (he now has a seriuos job), haven't heard from Alex Silich in a long time... so I am left to assume that I am the only one still going (strong or not is a different question).
Camille & Yasmine(RIP)-many of my songs are dedicated to her
